Steve states there culverts are totally full of Pine tree needles, branches and dirt from the major storm last year. The general plan is to keep the Rota-JETTER Culvert Cleaning Machine on the streets of Vidor every workday. All the culverts have to be initially cleaned to get water runoff moving. The Rota-JETTER Culvert Cleaning Machine can operate down in the ditch in a straight line (in line) with a culvert and also operate up on the road grade out of any standing water. The Drill stem can flex downward into the Culvert and the power unit can operate up on the shoulder high and dry! It operates equally well both ways. If you are going to operate “in line,” the set up normally requires fewer feet of drill stem. The County Roads Manager checked the culvert and saw it was clean and would now allow proper water to flow. The above process: setup, pilot bore, cleaning, and loading back on to the support unit took about a hour. In most cases a culvert this size would take about 20 to 30 gallons of water to clean with the Rotta-JETTER™. However, this culvert took over 150 gallons of water because of the Clay. With our 500 Gallon water tank on the support unit, we had plenty of water left over to go clean more culverts. After loading the Rota-JETTER™, we were told that the culvert we had just cleaned was scheduled for replacement the next week. After our machine cleaned the culvert, it saved the County a $300.00 replacement culvert cost, plus the labor and time to do it. They also said “this road would have been blocked 4 to 5 days while compacting and re-surfacing it.” They acknowledged that the Rota-JETTER™ Culvert Cleaning Machine saved the County over $2500.00 the first day! The Rota-JETTER™ Culvert Cleaning Machine can clean over 90% of your culverts which normally would need to be removed and replaced because they are too full to clean any other way.

Culvert Cleaning Machine:
The Rota-JETTER™ Culvert Cleaning Machine cleans culverts by the use of rotation and medium water pressure. We have developed a process which has the rotation of a sewer cleaner and also applies a constant water supply to wash out sediment and other blockages. Any tree roots will also be removed by the cleaning tool while inside the culvert. The cleaning process is normally completed with three steps: 1. Bore a pilot hole through the culvert and come out of the other end. 2. Remove the Pilot Bit and attach the proper Culvert Cleaning Tool. 3. Pull the Culvert Cleaning Tool back through the culvert with water and rotation. The Culvert Cleaning tool has small holes which deliver water to the proper areas where needed. While the tool is rotated and pulled back through the culvert, the rotation and water wash the blockage materials out of the other side. If the culvert is totally blocked, pushing the Cleaning Tool from one end and back to the other allows the tool to dislodge and wash the remainder of the blockage material out. Example: A 20” dia. 30’ long culvert was completely packed with East Texas red clay. A Pilot hole was bored through to the other end in just a few minutes…. We bored from the high end down to the low end of the culvert. This allowed the water and cuttings to flush out of the low end during the cleaning process. In the first pull-back, a big plug of clay was pulled out of the entry end of the culvert. Considering how badly it was packed with clay, we decided to push the Culvert Cleaning Tool back through with rotation and water. This pushed a lot more of the clay out of the low end. We then pulled the cleaning tool back to the entry end. At this point we were able to push and pull back one more time.
